Fee for foreign Nationals from SAARC Countries

          Foreign Nationals belonging to SAARC countries and holding a foreign passport will pay US$ 500 less than the prescribed Annual fee for a programme of study.


The Annual Hostel Fee for Foreign candidates is Rs. 15,000 except the Ph.D. students for whom the fee is Rs. 18,000.



Recognition

National: Jamia Hamdard is a member of Association of Indian Universities (AIU). Its degrees & diplomas are at par with any other University of India. It is accredited by the National Accreditation and Assessment Council (NAAC) in A category.

International: all the major international associations of universities including Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), London, recognize Jamia Hamdard

What is Deemed University? An educational institution that is making academic contribution of high level in its area of specialization is accorded Deemed University status by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India. It has equal status as that of any other university in terms of offering of degrees and diplomas. In India there are 70 universities and educational institutions recognized as deemed universities.



Accommodation

Inside the Campus: International Scholars’ Hostel (For Boys) : Annual charges: US$ 600+Food charges (approx US$300 to be paid in advance). For girls, US$ 400 + Food Charges (approx. US $ 300 to be paid in advance).

Outside the campus: Annual charges for accommodation ranges from US$ 600 to 1000 depending upon the location and type of accommodation + food charges. Public transport comprising of bus, auto-rickshaw and taxi is relatively cheap in Delhi.

University has no provision for accommodation  for married students who want to stay with their families.



Admission Enquiries and Application Procedure

Candidate may apply direct (as self financing candidate) or through the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR, E-mail: iccr@vsnl.com). For scholarship of Government of India, candidate may apply to Indian Mission to their country for ICCR Fellowship. Educational Consultants India (EdCIL): website: www.edcil.org, e-mail: root@edcil.co.in also arrange admission of foreign students in Jamia Hamdard.

Application form can be obtained from the Chairman, Admission Committee, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi-110062 by post by sending a demand draft of US$ 10 in favor of Jamia Hamdard payable at Delhi or can be downloaded from the university website. For downloaded form, enclose a demand draft of US$ 10 with it. Sufficient time is given to foreign students to complete the admission formalities.



Visa Requirements

Should have valid passport and student visa. The visa can be obtained from the Indian missions abroad by producing letter of confirmed offer of admission from Jamia Hamdard. A No Objection Certificate will also have to be obtained from the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. Health Care

University has its own 150-bed hospital with well equipped out patient and in-patient facilities. Free medical consultation is available to students. The hospital has consultations in medicine, surgery, obstetric & gynaecology, paediatrics, orthopaedics, ophthalmology, ENT, dental, dermatology, urology, plastic surgery, neurology, and cardiology. Unani medical facility is also available.

Only free OPD consultation is offered to students. They have to meet the cost of medicines by themselves.



Language of Instructions

English, except B.U.M.S., where the medium of instructions is Urdu.



English Language Course

A prospective student is expected to have reasonably good knowledge of English language. The university has provision for training in English language for those who are not proficient in English. A three-month Certificate Course in English Language has been launched to develop English language skills in international students. Those who have cleared Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL) or The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with desired scores may not be required to do this course. A student who will show evidence that he/she has been taught in s system where English was medium of instruction throughout his/her career will also be exempted from attending this course. For others, it will be desirable that they join the course three months before our academic session begins. The course fee is US$ 200. They may be provided hostel accommodation, if required on normal payment of fee for boarding and lodgings.

Foreign Students’ Advisor looks after the affairs of foreign students. Various cultural and social event are also organized by the cell

GUIDELINES FOR ADMISSION OF INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS (FOREIGN/NRI) AND SPONSORED CANDIDATES

 a)  International Students

1.Introduction:

Rules framed by University Grants Commission (UGC) and notified in its website www.ugc.ac.in  will be followed for deciding the  eligibility and admission of international students to various courses offered in Jamia Hamdard.

 

2.International Students Cell:

The University has set up an International Students Cell to deal with admission and guidance of international students. This Cell will not only control the admission of the international students but will also provide necessary guidance for securing admission. All letters relating to international students will be addressed to the International Students' Adviser of Jamia Hamdard.

 

3.International Students:
 

Under these Guidelines, 'International Students' will include the following:

         i.          Foreign students: Students holding passports issued by foreign countries including people of Indian origin who have acquired the nationality of foreign countries are included as foreign students.

       ii.            Non Resident Indians (NRI): Only those Non Resident Indian students who have studied and passed the qualifying examinations from schools or colleges in foreign countries will be included as international students. This will include the students studying in the schools or colleges situated in foreign countries even if affiliated to the Boards of Secondary Education or Universities located in India, but will not include students studying in those schools or colleges (situated in India) and affiliated to the Boards of Secondary Education or Universities of the foreign countries. Students passing the qualifying examinations from Boards or Universities located in foreign countries as external students and dependants of NRI studying in India will not be included as international students.

Entry level status of International students on entry to the country will be maintained.

 

4.             Documents required for admission of International Students:

         i.            Visa:All the international students will require a student visa endorsed to this Institution for joining full time courses. No other endorsement is acceptable. Students wishing to join a research programme will require a research visa endorsed to this Institution. The visa should be valid for the prescribed duration of the course.A visa is not required for NRI students. Students who are doing full time courses, in some other institutions, do not require a separate visa for joining part time courses provided that their current visa is valid for the entire duration of the course.

       ii.            No Objection Certificate: Students do not require a No Objection Certificate,  for joining professional courses. All international students wishing to undertake any research work or join a Ph.D or M. Phil. programme will have to obtain prior security clearance from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the approval of Department of Secondary & Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development Government of India and this must be on the research visa endorsed to this Institution.

 

5.EligibilityQualifications:

The qualifications required for eligibility for admission to different courses can be checked in detail from the prospectus. Only those students who have qualified from foreign Universities or Boards of Higher Education, recognized as equivalent by the Association Of Indian Universities (AIU) are eligible for admission. When required, a reference will be made to AIU to check the equivalence. An international student In case the University/Board is not included in the list, the candidate has to obtain and submit a certificate to this effect from AIU by paying the requisite fee.  Submission of Equivalence Certificate from AIU is mandatory for foreign nationals. 6. Admission of International Students:

Admission of all the international students will be done through the International Students' Cell of Jamia Hamdard. Students will generally be admitted in the beginning of the course. However students can also be admitted as transfer cases in the middle of the course from other institutes with which there is an understanding for accepting the students as transfer cases.

 

The admission of international students is done in two stages. First, a student wishing to join Jamia Hamdard gets the application form and the information on the courses available, the eligibility requirements and admission procedure from the prospectus or the website of Jamia Hamdard. The application for provisional admission may then be submitted to the International Student's Cell along with the prescribed fees. The Cell will then check the eligibility and issue the provisional admission letter. This is required to get the visa and to complete other formalities.

 

After getting provisional admission, the student should get the student visa and complete all other formalities. The student should then report for final admission to Jamia Hamdard. The next step is to fill up the admission form of Jamia Hamdard and pay the required fees. After this, the student should undergo the medical examination. Jamia Hamdard also requires the students to appear for the English proficiency test if the qualifying examination is not in the English medium. Once this is done, the final admission is given.

 

The international students will have to pay the fees in US dollars. In special cases, permission will be given for payment of fees in the equivalent Indian Rupees.

 

7. Remedial Course in English:

In addition the students will have to pay the tuition and other fees as prescribed by Jamia Hamdard. Students who are required to take the proficiency test in English or undergo the foundation course will have to pay the prescribed fees as applicable. This will have to be paid when the students are finally admitted. The fee differs from course to course. For International students  it will be desirable that they join the course three months before the beginning of academic session. The course fee will be according to the capsule of the course i.e. three months, six months and ten months or more. They may be provided hostel accommodation, if required on normal payment of fee for boarding and lodging.

 In case student does not get/ take the admission to the course after obtaining provisional admission, then the administrative fees will be refunded after deducting the bank commission and postage as applicable.

An international student who has been granted admission to any of the courses after passing the qualifying examination from a statutory Board or University outside India may have to appear at the Proficiency Test in English conducted by Jamia Hamdard or any other organization. International students who have passed the qualifying examination in the English medium are exempted from this test.

An international student who either fails in the Proficiency Test in English or fails to appear at this test, shall be required to join the Remedial English Course for International students (RECIS), or the foundation course conducted by Jamia Hamdard.

After successful completion of RECIS or the foundation course, the students will join the regular course.

ELTIS has especially designed an English Language Course to cater to the students who want to improve their proficiency in using the English language. This course can be done simultaneously with the other regular courses or independently.

 

8. Transfers and Change of Course:

An international student who has been granted admission to a particular course shall not be allowed to change the course. Transfer from one institution in India to another is also not allowed ordinarily. In exceptional cases, the International Students Cell may permit this - based on the availability of the course, eligibility rules and permission of the Competent Authority of the Institution.

 

9. Government of India scholars:

International students who are awarded scholarships by the ICCR New Delhi shall be given preferential treatment while granting admission and for hostel accommodation. Sponsored candidates from different foreign governments for training and studies are also given preference for the same.

Stepwise procedure for admission of International students for full time courses in Jamia Hamdard.

The procedure for admission is given below: 

Step-1:
a
. International  students should apply on a separate form prescribed for Foreign Nationals/NRI/Sponsored candidates..  

 b. The Information Bulletin & Prospectus along with Application Form for Foreign Nationals/NRIs/ seats may be obtained from the Admission Section, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi - 110062 by paying a crossed Bank Draft of US$ 20 or cash in  Indian Rupees 500/- (Crossed Bank draft  of Rs. 600 only, if requested by post) in favour of Jamia Hamdard payable at New Delhi. The candidates may apply on the prescribed form by enclosing the processing fee of US$ 20 or Rs. 500 for each discipline/programme. 

c. The Application Form can also be downloaded from the web site of the University at www.jamiahamdard.edu. In such cases, the candidate should submit an amount of US$ 20 or Rs. 500/- in addition to processing fee of US$ 20 or Rs. 500 for each discipline/programme.

Step 2: Fill up the eligibility form for international students and submit it, along with the copies of certificates listed in the eligibility forms and the required fees. This should be done well in time so that the student is able to obtain the visa and NOC before the due date of admission

Step 3: Get the provisional admission letter from the International Students Cell, in order to obtain the visa.

Step 4: Show this letter to the Indian Embassy in the respective country and get a student visa endorsed to Jamia Hamdard. NRI students do not require a visa.

Step 5: Report to Jamia Hamdard for admission. Fill the permanent admission form and submit it with the following documents (in original along with a xerox copy):

a.       Degree/ Pass Certificate of the qualifying examination

b.      Mark list of qualifying examination.

c.       Student visa in original.

d.      A xerox copy of their passport - duly attested by a notary.

 

Note: The original certificates will be returned to the students immediately after making an endorsement to this effect.


Step 6:Undergo the medical examination and get the medical fitness certificate. As per government rules all international students entering India on student visa have to be tested for HIV and will not be given admission if found to be positive. All international students will be required to pay medical fees of US $ 50, which includes the medical insurance cover for the first year. For subsequent years the medical insurance fees will be same as for other Indian students and is included in other fees.


Step 7: Appear for the proficiency test in English, if any as per admission requirement of Jamia Hamdard. This is only applicable, if the qualifying examination is not in the English medium.

Step 8: Admission of international students will be confirmed only after verification of original certificates, medical fitness test and payment of required fees.


Step 9: Within a week of arrival in India register their names with the police in the Foreigner Regional Registration Office (FRRO) of the local Police.

International students who are studying for full time courses in any other institution can be given admission to part time courses only if they hold a valid visa for the duration of the part time course. A separate visa is not required. They will pay the fees as applicable. The Jamia Hamdard may admit such cases directly but in consultation with International Students Cell if they meet the prescribed eligibility qualifications.

 

10.Discipline

The international students should abide by all the rules of Jamia Hamdard and the code of conduct as applicable to Indian students doing same courses.


11. Examination and Award of Degrees & Diplomas

The procedure for examination, payment of examination fees, issue of mark list, issue of passing certificates and award of degrees will be same as for the Indian students doing same courses.

 

12.Conclusion

The above rules and guidelines will be strictly followed.  In case there are any differences on the interpretation of rules then the opinion of the International Students Cell will be final. Students will have to pay the revised fee when applicable. On the points not specifically covered, the decision of the Jamia Hamdard authorities will be final. 

b) Sponsored Candidates 

Procedure for applying: 

1. Sponsored candidates should apply on a separate form prescribed for Sponsored candidates. The Sponsored candidates will have to submit a sponsorship letter at the time of admission.  

 2. The Information Bulletin & Prospectus along with Application Form for Sponsored seats may be obtained from the Admission Section, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi - 110062 by paying a crossed Bank Draft of US$ 20 or cash in  Indian Rupees 500/- (Crossed Bank draft  of Rs. 600 only, if requested by post) in favour of Jamia Hamdard payable at New Delhi. The candidates may apply on the prescribed form by enclosing the processing fee of US$ 20 or Rs. 500 for each discipline/programme.

Who is a Sponsored Candidate? 

A candidate who is Sponsored by an Industry/Institution will be considered under Sponsored category. He/she should attach a certificate with the application form from the competent authority of the  industry/Institution showing the sponsorship. 

Note: 

1.         If the seats reserved for NRI/Sponsored Candidates are not filled, vacant seats will be offered to general category candidates from the merit list. 

2.         Additional 15% of total seats are reserved for Foreign Nationals wherever applicable as per MHRD/UGC norms
