Jamia Hamdard signs Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India

 Jamia Hamdard has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India for collaborative research. This will be an umbrella agreement for collaboration between Jamia Hamdard and DBT encompassing a range of research institutions and centres under aegis of DBT. Under this programme, joint Ph.D. programmes will be launched. Teachers and students of Jamia Hamdard would be able to have training at DBT research laboratories and facilities. The broad objectives of this MoU are:

1.         To promote individual contacts among scholars, students and personnel of both the        institutions.

2.         To provide opportunities for both staff and students to use to maximum the expertise      and       facilities available in both the organizations through training of students/staff and        through exchange of thoughts by brain storming sessions/seminars/workshops and          meetings.

3.         To work jointly for the common research interest at national and international levels.       This includes preparation of proposals and their implementation as per the national    health priorities.

4.         To support the exchange of academic and training material.

5.         To share experiences and expertise concerning institute administration and         management.

6.         To encourage any other activities that both the institutions agreed to be on mutual           benefit.

The MoU was exchanged between the organizations represented by Prof. M.Z. Abdin, Dean, Faculty of Science on behalf of Jamia Hamdard and Dr. Sudhanshu Vrati,
Dean, Translational Health Science and Technology Institute on behalf of DBT in a brief ceremony organized on October 1, 2011. On this occasion, Prof. Abdin lauded proactive role of the Vice Chancellor in facilitating this MoU for the benefit of teachers and students. Dr. Vrati also praised initiative of Jamia Hamdard in having the collaboration with Hilleman Laboratories in the areas of vaccinology and hoped that the MoU will further augment the research profile of Jamia Hamdard and DBT would benefit from the academic excellence of Jamia Hamdard in several potential areas. The ceremony was followed a lecture by Dr. Vrati on “Japanese Encephalitis: Development of Novel Prophylactics and Therapeutics”. The MoU exchange ceremony and lecture were attended by faculty members, Advisor (Research) and a large number of students. We all hope that this MoU will open up new opportunities for teachers and students in the emerging areas of biotechnology.
