SPIC MACAY, JAMIA HAMDARD 

Jamia Hamdard is a University with a difference, “Accredited in the ‘A’ category by The National Accreditation and Assessment Committee, Government of India”. Comprising of seven faculties namely, Faculty of Islamic Studies and Social Sciences, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Faculty of Management Studies and Information Technology, Faculty of Unani Medicine, Faculty of Pharmacy, Rufaida College of Nursing and Faculty of Science. 

It aims at creating human beings rather than mere students. The students here are made to compete in every walk of life. In order to provide better future and position to students, Jamia Hamdard not only tries to give full support, but also it collaborates with certain prestigious organizations of the globe. The aim is to provide a vast sky and a better platform to the students. SPIC MACAY is also one such prestigious platform. 

SPIC MACAY (The Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth) with a fortuitous inkling to come was found in 1977 as a non-profit voluntary, apolitical and participatory students movement. Its aim is to promote awareness among the youth of the classical arts, rituals, mythology and philosophy, that makes the multihued cultural tapestry of India.  

SPIC MACAY is synonymous with quality performance by established stars, who perform under its banner with a difference.        

With the objectives of learning things and spreading knowledge, fraternities at Jamia Hamdard also get attached with SPIC MACAY at its Delhi chapter. The idea is to carry on the lighted torch of India’s rich heritage and pass it on to the next generation to spread its flame in the world. SPIC MACAY is not a group of some students, but it is a phenomenon, a responsibility and an inner feeling towards Indian culture. Here it comprises of the students from different faculties.  An integrated atmosphere of the different sciences with a similar classical taste is the backbone of the group.

SPIC MACAY ACTIVITIES:

Jamia Hamdard strongly believes in upholding the cultural heritage of the country.  Efforts in this direction are made from time to time by participating and organizing various functions and programs at the University Campus for the promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture under the banner of SPIC MACAY..

 Re-orientation Program:

An orientation program of SPIC MACAY for the students (Fresh Batches) was organized at Hamdard Convention Centre on Sept. 3, 2004. While delivering  their comments Dr. Asim Ali Khan ( Jamia Hamdard), Mr. Irfan Zubairi, Mr.Amit Bose and Mr. Faizan Jamil ( Student, M Pharm, Jamia Hamdard ), people related with SPIC MACAY, Delhi Chapter highlighted various activities and ways of functioning of  SPIC MACAY at national and international platforms.

 BAZM -E- QAWWALLI:

Under the Virasat 04 series of SPIC MACAY, Jamia Hamdard organized a Bazm-e- Qawwalli on Oct 7, 2004 at the Library grounds of its Campus.

The soulful renditions by famous Nizami Brothers were enjoyed by the audience in an ambience closely related to the erstwhile Sufiyana Culture.

The program was organized keeping in agreement with the traditional values of Classical Indian Culture and the evening was brought to life with the true emulation of the Indian heritage completed with the seating arrangements on the ground resting on Gao Takiyas.

The function was well attended by the students, officers, teaching and non teaching fraternity of Jamia Hamdard besides several guests from other parts of the city.

Presently students from Jamia Hamdard keep on participating very enthusiastically in various activities organized in certain other parts of the city. Students also assemble in the typical natural outdoor settings frequently at University Campus to discuss and exchange views on the issues of promoting Indian Classical Music and Culture.
