India, with its long tradition of scientific pursuits both in ancient and medieval times and with its almost geographically central position in Asia., had been both a transmitter and recipient of knowledge. This country is therefore contributing its share to the studies of history of Science in Asia by publishing this Journal. However, the Journal specialises in studies and researches on Afro-Asia during the medieval period. Special emphasis is given to interaction and transmission of scientific ideas among the various countries of Afro-Asia. In special cases we also publish original research articles and papers on European Middle Ages having a bearing on sciences in Afro-Asia. Papers based on primary source material and/or dealing with case histories (Problem Geschichte) are most welcome. However, occasionally short reviews may also be considered for publication. It is also intended to print short primary sources of importance, as supplement.
