Scholarships

1. Hakeem Abdul Majeed Merit Scholarship of Rs.125 per month tenable for one year is awarded to the students of Jamia Hamdard who secure highest marks in the following examinations:

  • B. Pharm. I, II & III year (Regular, I Shift)

  • B.U.M.S. I, II & III Professional

  • B.Sc.(Nursing) I, II & III year

  • M.Sc. I year.

2. Hakeem Abdul Hameed Fellowship to M.D. (Unani) students.

3. The students of Diploma in General Nursing & Midwifery are given monthly stipend as approved from time to time.

4. Hamdard Research Fellowships of Rs.4000/- per month is available for 10 Ph.D. students.

5. Maulana Wahid Hussain Memorial Merit Scholarship for BUMS, II Professional student.

6. Dr. Maqbul Husain Jafri Memorial Scholarship for BUMS, III Professional student.

7. Maulana Shah Mustafa Raza Merit Scholarship to the student who secures highest marks in the Admission Test for M.A. (Previous).

8. Maulana Ahmad Raza Merit Scholarship to the student who secures highest marks in the M.A. (Previous) Examination.

9. Tasmia Merit Scholarship of Rs.500 per month for ten months for a M.Sc. final year student of M.Sc. Biotechnology.

GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION OF STUDENTS IN THE UNIVERSITY

          The University attracts students from all over India, with the majority coming from the states of Delhi, UP, Bihar, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir and Rajasthan. The other states who have a representation in Jamia Hamdard are Kerala, West Bengal, Gujarat, Orissa, Assam, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Manipur, Andhra Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Meghalaya. The University also has overseas students from U.A.E., Kuwait, Iraq, Iran, Yemen, Sudan, Mexico, Mauritius, Uganda, Bangladesh & Bhutan.


ECONOMIC STATUS OF THE STUDENTS:

          A random sample of 200 (out of 2000 students) students admitted in the year 2000-2001 shows that most of the students come from middle class backgrounds, and from smaller cities and towns. The average number of dependents in their families is seven and the average monthly income of their parents ranges from Rs.5500 to Rs.6500 per month. It is thus clear that the students need financial support during their stay in Jamia Hamdard, so that their parents have an opportunity for educating their other children. The courses offered by Jamia Hamdard are professional in nature and most of the students are able to secure jobs immediately after the completion of studies.

Scholarship amount:

          In view of the present requirement of financial assistance to the students, it is proposed that the University will accept donations from charitable organizations and individuals for disbursing of scholarships at the rate of Rs.500 per month, payable for ten months. For every scholarship, an amount of Rs.50,000 is required which will be suitably invested and the income out of this investment will be utilised for disbursing this scholarship to students. Amount less than Rs.50,000 will also be accepted.

Criteria for Selection of Candidates:

         The organization contributing the funds may decide the criteria for selection of students. Generally, the criteria is merit-cum-means.

(a) Selection of the Candidates: The suitable candidates shall be selected through a fair, uniform and transparent selection process.

(b) Name of Scholarship: It will be according to the choice of the Organisation contributing the funds. However, in cases of the amount of donation being less than Rs.50,000, the scholarship will be named by the University.

If the donor so wishes, the academic progress made by the Scholarship holder, will be intimated.


MODE OF TRANSFER OF FUNDS:

a) Foreign Donor:

The amount will be payable to Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi. The following language is to be followed in the case of foreign currency remittances. The FCRA (Foreign Contribution Regulation Act, 1976) number of the University is : 231650710.

b) Indian Donor

By means of Bank drafts/crossed cheques drawn in the name of Jamia Hamdard payable at New Delhi.


CONCESSIONS UNDER THE INCOME TAX ACT:

          According to Government of India, Ministry of Finance, Director General, Income Tax (Exemptions) Calcutta notification No. DG(E)/80G/93-94 dated December 15, 1993, persons making donations to Jamia Hamdard are entitled to 100 per cent deduction of the amount of donations made to the University, in computing their total taxable Income Tax.


Presently operated scholarships

The following scholarships are available for the students during the current session. All the scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit. Due consideration is also given to student’s financial needs. 

1.    Hakim Abdul Majeed Scholarship

      For the students who have secured highest % of marks in the last annual examinations of B.

      Pharm or B.Pharm (Unani) I, II and III year (under regular fee), BUMS I, II and  III

      professional, B.Sc. (Nursing) I, II and III year and M.Sc. I year.

2.    Hakim Abdul Hameed Fellowship
       For a student of M.D. (Unani).

3.    Maulana Wahid Hussain Memorial Merit-cum-Fee Scholarship

For a student of BUMS IInd prof on the basis of merit and need.
 

4.    Dr. Maqbool Husain Jafri Memorial Scholarship

For a student of BUMS IIIrd prof on the basis of merit and need.

5.    Tasmia Merit Scholarship
       For a student of M.Sc. IInd year (Biotechnology) on the basis of merit of the candidate.

6.    Nurul Hasan Memorial Scholarship
       For a student of M.Sc. IInd year (Biotechnology) who has secured highest marks.

7.      Akhtar Hussain Memorial Merit Scholarship

  For a student who joins BUMS course from Pre-Tibb on the basis of merit.

 

8.     Hakim S.A. Jamil Qadri Memorial Scholarship

 For a student of B.Pharm 1st year (U) on the basis of need and eligibility.

9.    Maulana Shibli Nomani Scholarship
       For a student of B. Pharm. (Unani) IInd Year (SFS) 
       (General) who secures highest marks in B. Pharm (Unani) Ist year.

10. Jamboonathan Means-cum-Merit Scholarship

     For a B.Sc. (Nursing) IInd year student who have  secured highest % of marks in Ist year of the programme.
 

11.   Prof. A.K.M. Ghouse Means-cum-Merit Scholarship

For a student of M.Sc. IInd year (Environmental Botany) on the basis of merit.
 

12.   Anchrom Means-cum-Merit Scholarship

For a student of M.Sc. IInd year (Chemistry-Industrial Applications) on the basis of merit status of the candidate.
 

13.   Hind Agro Industries Merit Scholarship

For a student of M.Sc. IInd year (Toxicology) on the basis of merit cum financial need of the candidate.

14.   Dr. Manoj Varshney Scholarship
       For a student of M.Sc. IInd year (Chemistry-Industrial Applications) on the basis of merit.

15.  Late Maulvi Shabbir Ahmad Scholarship

For the topper of annual examination of Pre-tibb.

16.   Tasneema Fellowship
       For a female student of M.Sc. II year (Toxicology) for studies on Regulatory Toxicology.

17.   Mrs. Farida Haque Scholarship 

       For first year student of M.Sc DGNM on the basis of means only and also if she is eligible to receive Zakat.
 

18.  Musharraf Hussain Jafri Scholarship

         For students of Diploma in Medical Lab Techniques II year on the merit-cum-need basis.
 

19.  Syed Abdul Karim Scholarship

       For a student of Diploma in X-ray and ECG Techniques II year, on the merit-cum-need basis.
 

20. A limited no. of Hamdard National Foundation (HNF) Fellowships are available for Ph.D. students.
 

21.  Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Ajmeri (Gharib Nawaz) merit-cum-means scholarship

To be awarded on the basis of essay writing competition on the life and work of khwaja Nawaz
 

22.  Dr. L.M. Singhvi Gold Medallion (or Silver Shield) of  accolade

 For the first and second winner of essay competition on a subject of topical importance of inter-
 faith dialogue conducted every year. The award will be administered by the department of
 Islamic Studies.

      (generally taking into account performance in earlier years.

 

29.  Rais Ahmad Khan Scholarship

       For a Student of Diploma in Medical Record Techniques Operation Theatre Technique on the basis

       of his/her financial condition performance in earlier years.

 

30. Mrs. Shakila Naqvi Merit Scholarship

      For a Muslim Female Student of M.Sc. II year who secures highest marks in M.Sc. Ist year of

      Faculty of Science.


31. Late Janab Haji Mohammad Ahmad Khan For Top Excellence Reward (MASTER) Scholarship

        For two students of B. Pharm (Unani) S econd year on the basis of merit cum means subject to
      completing and passing of all subjects. (Rs.700 each per months for 10 months)


32.  Late Janab Haji Mohammad Ahmad khan Education Reward (MAKER) Scholarship
         For two students of BUMS Second year on the basis of merit cum means subject to completing and
       passing of all subjects.(Rs.700 each per months for 10 months)

 

33.  Ashraful Ulama Scholarship

         For  scholar of Ph.D on "Ashraful Ulama ki Taalimi Wa Samaji Khidmat Suba Maharashtra Ke
         Hawale Se" Rs. 4000/- p.m.
 

34.   Ahraful Ulama Scholarship

        For students of M.A. Previous (Islamic Studies) and M.A. Final Year (Islamic Studies) of
        Rs. 500 p.m. each.
 

35.   Late Mr. C. R. Arora Scholarship

          For a meritorious and needy student of M.Sc. Chemistry (Industrial Chemistry) Final Year.
